Thank you for contacting me about pornography and obscenity. It is good to hear from you.

The production and distribution of child pornography is one of the most alarming and appalling offenses. I believe there is no place in our society for the exploitation of children, and I will do everything in my power to stop it. Children are our nation's greatest resource and they must be protected from those who seek to exploit them for their own personal gain. It is critical that we work together on the federal, state, and local levels to prevent the exploitation of our children and to punish those responsible for this reprehensible behavior.

As you know, Senator Joseph Biden (D-DE) introduced S. 1738, the "Combating Child Exploitation Act" on June 28, 2007. I am a cosponsor of this legislation. The bill creates a Special Counsel for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction within the Office of the Deputy Attorney General. The objective of the counsel is to improve the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, to increase resources for regional computer forensic labs, and strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute predators. You will be happy to know on September 25th, the Senate passed S. 1738 by Unanimous Consent. Before the bill's passage, S. 1738 was combined with a modified version of the House-passed SAFE Act, of which I am also a cosponsor. The combination of these two bills will significantly increase our fight against child predators. Currently, S. 1738 is awaiting approval from the President.

I just received this letter from my WY State Senator in answer to my letter. Also I removed my posts regarding my blog rewards for mailing in your letter to the Senate as I asked. I received MANY emails from you that you sent in the letters/emails/ and made the phone calls but you didn't want rewarded for it you just wanted to do what is right. So for now there is no blog candy. I will have a drawing just for fun at a later date. Yay!!
